I spent the war in a Japanese prison camp, from the age of 8. It was the one featured in the Steven Spielberg film Empire of the Sun. After the war the police told us the Union Jack Club in town had been converted into a gas chamber. If one more atom bomb had been dropped on Japan, we would have been gassed.
